Santa Teresa
The Easter break was just enough time to organise another Workcamp from Warrane College. With the theme of World Youth Day to inspire them, a group of ten College residents made the trip out to Santa Teresa, or Ltyentye Apurte, an aboriginal community about 80km south-east of Alice Springs.
The work project was to clean out and re-paint the swimming pool block of the community swimming pool. By the last day, the block had received a good scrub, and acouple of coats of paint. The red dust was cleared out of the building, although only until the next dust storm.

A two-day road-trip to Uluru and Kata-Tjuta was another highlight. The weather was very kind, allowing a sleep-out under the stars and beautiful sunset and sunrise viewings of Uluru.
Overall, a great cultural experience was had by all, as well as great satisfaction in a job well done. Workcamp participants from Warrane were: Andrew Subramanian, Joe Howard, Jorge Torres, David Arias, Joe Portillo, Alex Perrottet, and old boy Mark Gereis. They were joined by a small group from Melbourne.
St Patricks Day 2008
St Patrick's Day celebrations at Warrane College kicked off with an early bang on March 14th this year. Starting the night off with a scrumptious, Irish themed dinner, festivities later moved to the main common room where various Irish treats and brews were sampled. Once the crowd was settled, Master of Ceremonies and expert Irish coffee brewer, Dave Curran took to the stage yet again, leading the crowd through a copious compilation of traditional Irish folksongs, including Danny Boy, Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye, finishing up with the Warrane favourite, "The Hole in the Bog."
Overall the night was a huge success, being one of the first Activities Committee events of the year. Special thanks again must be given to MC Dave Curran for his passionate contribution to the night.
Warrane O-Week Roundup

O-Week 2008 was a huge success this year as new residents took part in the many organised activities and got accustomed to life in college before classes began. The week kicked off with an overnight trip to Gerringong, just south of Wollongong where the group of over 45 got to know each other better through beach sports and barbeques. The action continued throughout the week with a trip to Hacking River, a scavenger hunt to familiarise everyone with the city and a trip to a paintball range. Over this time, everyone got to know their fellow collegians and built friendships to last years.
Warrane Residents Tim Gotts and Liyao Zhou win prestigious Engineers Without Borders Competition
Civil Engineering students Tim Gotts and Liyao Zhou have just returned from a 3-week trip to India as part of their spoils from winning the inaugural Engineers Without Borders Challenge.
The Challenge involves designing a sustainable development project for a devloping setting. Tim and Liyao were part of the 'Planeteers' group that won the National Competition in Melbourne late in 2007.
More than 3500 students took part in the competition from 20 different universities across Australia and New Zealand.
Part of their prize was to travel to an orphanage in Tamil Nadu, India, which was the focus for their project. The model in the photo depicts their water, wastewater and sanitation system for the orphanage.
